Fertilizer

Fertilizer
Applying the correct amount of fertilizer will result in optinum yields. Perfect planning and analysis is of high importance, since fertilizer is one of the more expensive crop inputs. A decent soil sample should be taken into account when making decisions on a fertilizer blend for a crop. At G-mac's Agteam we've got qualified staff who can make these recommendations. We can make the specific fertilizer blend (liquid or dry) you need.

When to use Foliar Application
The most efficient time to use a foliar application is when there is signs of a nutrient deficiency. As well a foliar application will help to produce a better plant stand at the seedling stage along with increased root growth. Some air drills (mid row banders, side band, and paired row) place the fertilizer away from the seed so that higher rates of fertilizer can be used safely. Along with that, there will be a short time that the plant will have no fertilizer until the roots grow towards the fertilizer band. Deficiencies can show up at this time, therefore a foliar application when the plant has emerged from the soil can clear up any of the deficiencies. Other air drills (single shoot) place the fertilizer with the seed, limiting the amount of fertilizer that can be safely place with the seed. A foliar application can add the fertilizer needed to keep the crop healthy and give it that boost to grow big yields. Foliar applications are common after seeding when the plants have emerged from the soil, but also can be applied through out the growing season as needed.
This chart (below) shows the amount of nutrients used by differents crop for each bushel produced.
